We are thrilled to present our latest coffee from Brazil, a direct-trade partnership with UP22 Cafés and the farm Cafe Santa Maria!
This coffee was fermented before being naturally processed, giving it an extra burst of sweetness and balanced fruitiness. That said, if the idea of fruit in your coffee is not your default preference, we still recommend giving this one a try! It's not fruity like our Ethiopia or Nicaragua coffees—rather more of a subtle hint rounded out by a very familiar Brazilian profile. Lots of caramel, molasses, and honey with a nice nuttiness as the cup cools. We've loved it especially for filter coffee—but it's delicious and very forgiving on espresso too!
For those who loved the previous Brazilian coffee, we can assure you this one is just as good with absolutely no compromises. We have found it to be pleasant in all brewing methods, and it has even found a spot in both our House & Espresso blends.
Marina, director of UP22 Cafés, has the following to say of Cafe Santa Maria:
Coffee blends tradition, innovation, and sustainability. It is part of a story where the heritage of passion for coffee is passed down from generation to generation! The family began coffee cultivation with Mr. Pedro and Mrs. Elma in the 1970s. Believing in coffee’s potential, their children continued their parents’ work in coffee farming.
Produced by Giordany and Valéria Lage at Fazenda São Pedro, in the municipality of Santo Antônio do Amparo, MG, Brazil, this coffee is of the Acaía variety. It comes from a farm at approximately 1,000 meters above sea level, has undergone a fermentation process, and presents sensory notes of red fruits.
The distinctive terroir of the Campo das Vertentes Protected Geographical Indication, combined with post-harvest processing and careful selection of beans, has resulted in a coffee that opens doors to a world of flavors, aromas, and experiences.
By integrating production with sustainable practices, natural resources are preserved, along with the promotion of local community well-being. One of the farm’s priorities is protecting native forest areas and preserving water sources. All farm waste undergoes specific treatment, with some used for plant nutrition and solar energy production.
Coffees from this region are touted as some of the best that Brazil has to offer and we couldn't agree more!
